Cathodic Testing

To preform cathodic testing on underground propane tanks a multimeter is used to test the effectiveness of the sacrificial anode connected to the tank. This is a unit installed with an underground tank to protect it from corroding over time.

As of August 25, 2010 NFPA 54, 58 gas code states that all underground tanks are to be tested at regular intervals; Within 180 days of install, 12-18 months after the initial test, and periodic follow up testing not to exceed 36 months. If for any reason a test fails, repairs are to be carried out within 180 days, and the testing intervals start again.
